Lig2tex
100% bio-based textiles made from lignin
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The central aim of the project is to support the textile industry — which has historically been heavily reliant on fossil fuels (such as the oil used to manufacture polyester or nylon) — in its transition to a circular bioeconomy model
PARTNERS:
- GEMTEX is leading laboratory
- ICAM
- Ethics
- Bastien Tissage Technique
- Cousin Composites
PROJECT CONTENT AND EXPECTED RESULTS:
The central aim of the project is to support the textile industry — which has historically been heavily reliant on fossil resources (such as the oil used to manufacture polyester or nylon) — in its transition towards a circular bioeconomy model.
To achieve this, the project is based on two technological strands:
- Lignin valorisation: Lig2Tex utilises lignin, a natural and extremely abundant co-product derived from the paper industry and plant biomass.
- The creation of biomaterials: The aim is to chemically transform this lignin to develop new polymer components or sustainable additives that can be directly incorporated into textile applications.
